What is IP Address

IP Address is Logical Address and it works in layer 3 according to OSI Model.

An Internet Protocol address (IP address) is a logical numeric address that is assigned to every single computer, printer, switch, router or any other device that is part of a TCP/IP- and OSI model based network.

Types of IP Address: There are two types of IP address 1. IPv4 address and 2. IPv6 Address.

IP Address v4 has 32-bit nad IP Address v6 has 128-bit.

IPv4: It is 32 bit unit number and 32 bit divided into four(4) group and each group has 8bit.

There are 5 class in IPv4 Address

Class A, class B, class c, class D and class E

Class A,B and C these IP Address we are using for LAN and WAN.

class D for multicasting and Class E for Research and Development.

Range of IP Address

Class A:- 0.0.0.0 to 127.255.255.255

(0 & 127) for using different purpose

0 for Default Routing and 127 loopback(testing for Ethernet card)

Class B:-128.0.0.0 to 191.255.255.255

class C:- 192.0.0.0 to 223.255.255.255

Class D:-224.0.0.0 to 239.255.255.255

Class E:-240.0.0.0 to 255.255.255.255

Open Run(type Window + R)
Type CMD

Now open CMD and you can type ipconfig

What is Private IP Address ?

Private IP address we can use for internal network likewise Home, cyber cafe , Office,all corporate office etc.

Private IP address is non-internet (intranet) facing IP Address on an Internal network.

There are certain address each class reserved as a Private Network class is called Private IP Address. It is not valid on internet or Routing.

Range of Private IP Address

Class A: 10.0.0.0 to 10.255.255.255

Class B:172.0.0.0 to 172.31.255.255

Class C: 192.168.0.0 to 192.168.255.255

What is APIPA IP Address?

Automatic Private internet Internet protocol Address

When your system is not getting IP Address through DHCP server that time it show APIPA IP Address.

It is also called Microsoft IP Address.

169.254.0.0 to 169.254.255.254
